In the world of Fairy Tail, there are mages. They compromise of 10% of the living population. When you create your character you will have signed up for a specific magic that you can use. As a mage, you have Magic Power (魔力 Maryoku) in your body. Magic Power is the source of all power for mages. It is composed of Eternano.

There are two main classifications of magic:

Caster Magic:
(キャスターマジック Kyasutā Majikku)
This refers to magic is the expelled from the body rather than an object or external source. This type of magic is the most common form of magic.

Holder Magic:
(ホルダーのマジック Horudā Majikku)
This refers to magic that requires an external source to produce magic. This type of magic usually requires the use of magic power, though there are exceptions such as lacrima powered weapons.

Holder Magics:
- Holder magics are magics that are channeled through an object, specifically a weapon of some kind. While they can be used like a regular weapon, holder weapons are more difficult to channel their magic through, and some of the magic will be lost in the process, making it a rather inefficient form of magic, costing more magic to activate. In addition, holder weapons cannot be destroyed. There are two categories of holder weapons: Melee and ranged. Keep in mind that even though holders get stronger as the mage gets stronger, their power gets capped off at A-rank.

Molding Magic:
- Also known as Make Magic, this type of magic allows the user to mold or create something by concentrating their magic powers into their hands, like an element, into different shapes or forms. With make magic, you can create weapons and solid objects that otherwise cannot be created with regular elemental magic. These objects have been molded and thus, do not require any sustain costs and can stay on the field for as long as the user wants. Those who mold with two hands will create a more perfect form of their element. One handed molding is easier, however, it is less stable, and the durability of their creation is halved.

Support Magic:
- Support magic is a special type of magic that allows a mage to support another mage rather than fight by oneself. This magic is particularly useful in groups. They are also able to use their magic to affect spells or transfer effects to another person, making them extremely useful with others, even if they are weak alone. Support magics allow a mage to have an unlimited number of buffs and are capable of using support spells on multiple people with a single use. They are also capable of healing, making them important in a team. They have a drawback of being unable to have offensive spells, however. Support magic can only be a primary magic as well.

Physical Magic:
- Physical magics are magics that employ magic to the physical body, allowing a mage to do superhuman feats. They, like support mages, are capable of having as many buffs as they want. Their offensive spells are all physical and powerful, dealing more damage than a normal spell of the same rank. However, they have a drawback of being unable to use defensive spells. Physical magics can only be a primary magic.

Limited Magic:
- Here, there are certain magics that are of limited quantity. These magics are special in that they either have a slightly altered system of magic than regular magics, or they have some cool ability. The currently known limited magics that exist are Dragon Slayer, Re-Quip, Takeover, and Celestial Spirit magic. These magics require mages to be active while they are holding the magics, otherwise they will lose it. Once they have lost a magic, they must wait until somebody else loses a spot before they can get a limited magic back again. It is impossible for a mage to obtain multiple limited magics through normal means.

LIMITED MAGICS (DETAILS):
Slayer Magic (滅法 Metsu Mahō) is branch of Lost magic that utilizes elemental magic while taking on the characteristics of legendary beings, such as Dragons, Gods, and Devils. These magics are incredibly powerful and can be used to slay whatever their magics grant them to slay (Dragon Slayer magics slaying dragons, God Slayer magics slaying gods, etc.). Not only are slayer magics incredibly powerful, they are also incredibly rare. There are currently three known slayer magics:

- Dragon Slayer: Dragon Slayers allows its users to transform their physical bodies into a Dragon. As a result, the user can transform their body with features of their respective element, utilizing both offensive and defensive styles. A Dragon Slayer can consume external sources of their element to replenish their strength. However, a Dragon Slayer cannot consume the element that they produce themselves, and elements must be consumed through the mouth.
There are only two ways one can learn Dragon Slayer Magic. The first way is one must be taught by an actual Dragon. The ones who learned their Dragon Slayer Magic through this method are referred as First Generation Dragon Slayers. The second way is one must have Dragon Lacrima implanted into their body. The ones who learned their Dragon Slayer Magic through this method are referred as Second Generation Dragon Slayers.

Thanks to Dragon Slayers taking on the characteristics of a Dragon, they are granted an enhanced sense of smell. They are able to smell anything within ten meters of them with perfect detail, and are able to smell things up to one hundred meters away (but not strictly identify it, unless it is familiar)

- God Slayer: It is a form of Ancient Spell in which the caster is able to attain the abilities of a "God", using a specific element as their type. The certain elemental type of God Slayer Magic can be conjured from the caster's body and be used for various purposes, mainly in combat. It is said that the original usage of this Magic was to slay "Gods". In addition, the color of each God Slayer's element has a black tint, regardless of what it may be. Although it is unknown how one actually learns God Slayer Magic. Similar to Dragon Slayer Magic and Devil Slayer Magic, the caster is able to eat their own element and also use it for combative purposes. However, it appears that they cannot eat their own "God-like" element and instead one of a lower level. It is not vice-versa with Dragon Slayers, however, unless the Dragon Slayer has emptied out their own Magic Power to create a vessel for the respective element. God Slayers have incredibly eyesight, being able to see up to fifty meters in perfect detail (capable of counting the legs of a bug from fifty meters) without the use of magic. God Slayers are naturally strong against their own element, however, they are also still naturally weak against their opposing element.

- Devil Slayer: Devil Slayers are mages who use the power of the devil to utilize their element. Very little is known about these devil slayers, but what is known about them is that they are one of the strongest beings in existence.
Devil Slayers are, like other Slayers, able to consume external sources of their element, even ones formed from nothing, in order to replenish their strength and enhance their power, and have immunity towards their element. Additionally, the Slayer is able to control the element (of their own magic) of others. Contrary to its divine counterpart, God Slayer, Devil elements have a white tint in color and do not have an elemental weakness. In fact, Devil Slayer magics are strong against their own elements.

- Requip (換装 Kansō): Also known as Ex-quip, is a Caster Magic related to the summoning of various types of equipment. This Magic allows the users to store items in a pocket dimension so they can easily summon it at any time, even during battle, which gives them a high level of flexibility in combat. However, there is a limit to how much the pocket dimension can store. Requip can be used for simple or for combat-related purposes. Some users may just choose to use it to change their clothing. More skilled users are able to Requip different weapons in battle, and it is even possible to Requip armors in the midst of battle.

- Take Over (接収, テイクオーバー, Teiku Ōbā): An advanced Caster-Type Transformation Magic. This magic allows the user to, essentially, "take over" the power of an entity and use it to fight. It can increase the power, strength, and speed of the Caster, sometimes adding a new skill, such as flying, or swimming. One can only "take over" the power of beings that they truly "know". Currently, there are only 5 distinctively known kinds of Take Overs: Beast Soul, Animal Soul, Divine Soul, Satan Soul, and Machina Soul. In addition to embodying an entity, Take Over can also be used to control another entity or another entity's abilities.
